Wade Archer

Teacher | Cross Country Coach | Garden Manager

Mr. Archer has been with Benton Hall since 2013.  He teaches high school Spanish I, Spanish II, Ecology and Transitions and also coaches the cross country team.  Mr. Archer earned a Master’s Degree from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, Religion and History from Texas Christian University.  He also is fluent in Spanish and studied abroad in Peru. Mr. Archer is our school’s organic gardener and is responsible for the garden and construction of the outdoor classroom.  He has presented several gardening topics at Transition Nashville, Trevecca Nazarene University, TAIS Bi-Annual Conference, and Radicale Gathering and has completed a Permaculture Design Certification Course at Trevecca Nazarene University.

Benton Hall Academy’s Organic Gardening Program is a place of therapy and skill acquisition. Students learn how to give attention to the present while planning for the future as they watch seeds grow. Our students develop confidence, leadership, and learn nutrition and skills they can directly apply to their lives. The School Garden provides a primary space at BHA for hands-on learning where mistakes are accepted and perseverance is taught.

Allie Bright

Teacher | Soccer Coach

Ms. Bright has been at Benton Hall Academy since 2015.  She teaches lower school language arts, social studies and PE, as well as, middle school reading.  Ms. Bright graduated from the University of San Diego.  She has also taught in Thailand, assisted in running an English Camp in Thailand, and volunteered in schools across SE Asia.


Kathy Cavanaugh

Teacher | Aftercare

Ms. Kathy has been at Benton Hall since 2010.  She teaches math, science and social studies in the lower school, as well as, handwriting for the lower and middle school.  Ms.Kathy also does Aftercare.  She graduated from the University of Florida.  Before coming to Benton Hall Academy Ms. Kathy taught in-services and college level classes in Florida and was in pharmaceutical sales.  She also had a son who attended Benton Hall Academy and graduated in 2012.


Jean Ferguson


Ms. Ferguson teaches high school English, Biology and Spanish. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has a Professional Certification in Grades 7-12. Ms. Ferguson has been teaching for over 20 years and has been at Benton Hall Academy since 1992.


Denise Johnson


Ms. Johnson teaches middle school science and social studies, lower school reading, and health for both the lower and middle school. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from David Lipscomb University, Nashville. She also is a Designated Career Level 3 Master Teacher. She is currently working towards a Masters Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University and the University of Tennessee. Ms. Johnson has over thirty years of classroom experience and has been teaching at Benton Hall Academy since 1997.

Sheridan Kaatz

Teacher | Basketball Coach | Soccer Coach | Bus Driver

Mr. Kaatz began as a substitute teacher at Benton Hall Academy in 2014.  He teaches high school US History, World History, Government, Economics, and Middle School P.E.  Mr. Kaatz earned a bachelor’s degree and completed a Teacher Certification Training Program at Lipscomb University.


Laura Mason


Ms. Mason began as a substitute teacher  at Benton Hall Academy in 2014.  She teaches middle school math, reading and language arts.


Amy Murphy


Teacher | Lunch Coordinator | Aftercare

Ms. Amy teaches art in the lower, middle and high school, and teaches high school Current Events.  In addition, she coordinates lunches and does Aftercare. She is also the head of the prom committee.  Ms. Amy has been at Benton Hall Academy for over 15 years.

Nicole Ochs

Teacher | Yearbook Advisor | Saddle Up! Coordinator

Ms. Ochs began as a substitute teacher at Benton Hall Academy in 2013.  She teaches high school journalism and coordinates the Equestrian Assisted Learning program at Saddle Up!  She helped facilitate the Saddle Up! partnership and EAL pilot program in the Fall of 2012. In the fall of 2014, we were able to officially launch the program for all Benton Hall Academy students as part of its overall vision and program.  Before coming to Benton Hall Academy, Ms. Ochs traveled around the US as a Microsoft Certified Trainer for 5 years and then took a break to homeschool her own special needs child for 6 years. She has a son that started at BHA in 7th grade and will graduate in 2017.


Carol Weaver


Carol Weaver began as a substitute teacher and tutor at Benton Hall Academy in 2014.  She teaches high school Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry and Chemistry.
